More about holidays

ECC has a very generous holiday package. We recognize all thirteen Japanese national holidays. We also have three major fixed vacation periods throughout the year: a week off at the beginning of May (Golden Week), approximately 13 days off in August.

(Obon), and again at the end of December and into the beginning of January (New Year). These are paid holidays for full-time instructors. ECC also gives each instructor five paid, discretionary holidays each contract year (discretionary holidays are granted according to the needs of our schools, but almost all can be accommodated with enough notice).

ECC schools are closed for all Japanese national holidays, as well as for three vacation periods during the year. Your monthly guaranteed salary is not affected by these holidays and vacations (except as noted below and in the contract).

Golden Week (April 29 - May 5)

Four national public holidays are observed on April 29th and May 3rd, 4th and 5th; this period is called 'Golden Week'. Many Japanese companies close for the days in between these national holidays, making an unbroken week of holidays - ECC is one of them.

Summer Vacation

After the first term finishes in early August, ECC schools close for approximately two weeks. Instructors on a full time contract will receive their regular guaranteed salary for this period.

Winter Vacation

ECC instructors get approximately 12 days of vacation over the Christmas/New Year holidays. Classes end around December 26th and begin again around January 6th. Teachers on a full time contract will receive their regular guaranteed salary for this period.
